Breast cancer: how to recognize it?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with 42 000 new cases each year in France. Breast cancer will affect one in eight women during her life.

Risk Factors

Some risk factors have been identified (a woman with these factors will have a higher risk of developing another breast cancer).

First, the more we advance in age, the risk is high: two thirds of these cancers actually occur after 50 years.

The family history then: a cancer in a first-degree relative, mother or sister increases the risk by five. Hereditary cancers are rare: only 5% of women with breast cancer carry a genetic predisposition that they transmit to their daughters. The personal story is another one of these triggers: the risk of developing a second breast cancer is four to five times higher than average.
Basically, the more it is strong and prolonged, the risk is high. In other words, the absence of pregnancy, early puberty or late menopause are predisposing conditions of breast cancer.

other possible risk factors:

the Western lifestyle, a diet high in animal fats and low in fiber, fruits and vegetables, Obesity increases estrogen levels and therefore the risk of breast cancer. Conversely, some factors limiting the risk of breast cancer are sometimes advanced as an active life, breastfeeding or a balanced diet.

Early Detection

Most tumors are detected by women themselves. Thus, it is important for you to know the natural changes in your breasts during your menstrual cycle. Pay attention to your breasts when you change clothes or when you take a bath … Oops, did not sink in perpetual anxiety, you do not have to monitor your breasts every day. Perform regular but touching, and if you are anxious after a change noted, refer to your doctor immediately.

What are the symptoms to watch?

The first thing to watch is the appearance of lumps in the breast. In most cases, these lumps  do not constitute a tumor, but a cyst or a fibrous adenoma. However, as a precaution, contact your doctor at the onset of these abnormalities.
