OVARIAN CANCER
Usually hits women between 50 to 70, although actor!activist Priya Tendulkar was a young victim of this cancer. It’s caused by non-cancerous fluid filled sacs or enlarged ovaries. Embryonic caught up tissues in ovaries at foetal stage, or tumours due to hormonal bombardment of ovaries.
You are in the danger zone if you
- have been unable to become pregnant
- bore your first child after 30′
- menstruated before 12
- menopaused after 55
- have a family history of
- uterine, breast or colon cancer
Ominous Clues
chronic indigestion, gas, constipation, abdominal pain and swelling
- weight loss
- bloating
- urinary frequency
- all of which unfortunately show up rather late.
- Confirmation is difficult’ Usually with sonography, CAT Scan, MRI Scan.
Laporoscopy if cancer is suspected, in which the ovary is viewed through a small incision just below the navel.
