Prostate Cancer treatments
It is the commonest malignant tumor in humans. The adenocarcinoma of the prostate is up, however, that third of cancer deaths. Indeed, its evolution is variable and through early detection and adequate treatment, the disease is tackled effectively.
Some prostate cancers develop slowly while others tend to spread quickly. The degree of aggressiveness is highly variable. The likelihood of contracting such a disease increases with age. Depending on the progress of cancer, there are various treatment options.
Treatment of cancer of the prostateEn advanced cancers, treatment is hormonal or radiation-hormonal (combination hormone treatment and radiotherapy). The hormone is associated with chemotherapy (palliative treatment in cancer cases with metastases). [click to continue…]
What is it?
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer of men. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in men.
In recent years, the number of new cases has increased in developing countries because of the release of its screening, which can take encharge disease so early.
Causes and risk factors
Prostate cancer occurs in men over 45 years. Its frequency increases with age. It is almost constant in subjects 100 years.
There is a major ethnic factor and the population most affected is the black American population. In contrast, prostate cancer is very rare among Asians.
Some genetic factors have been identified in populations at risk.
Environmental factors, particularly food, are probably involved, but still under study.
The signs of the disease
Very often, prostate cancer develops without any symptoms. In contrast to benign hyperplasia (adenoma), cancer develops in the periphery of the prostate away from the urethra. It is only rarely responsible for urinary disorders. [click to continue…]
Medical-treatment-of-cancer
Cancer treatment depends on several factors: the type of cancer, its size and location of the disease and the health of the person. It usually takes several months. Then, regular monitoring is available, because of the possibility of relapse. Unfortunately, in many cases, treatment is initiated when the cancer is at an advanced stage, which reduces the chances of recovery.
Depending on the degree of development of cancer, three therapeutic approaches are possible:
* A cure, which aims to cure cancer.
* A adjuvant, which is given in parallel to the primary treatment to improve chances of recovery (eg, hormone therapy administered before or after surgery for prostate cancer).
* A palliative treatment, which aims to relieve symptoms or prolong life, when the chances of recovery are very low. [click to continue…]
